Coconut originates from a very simple idea: finding all photos that contain a specific person in a cloud folder.
For example, you may have a Google Drive folder containing several hundred to several thousand photos from events, family photos, class photos, company photos, etc., and want to find all the photos featuring a specific person. Normally, you would have to open each photo individually, which is very time-consuming. Coconut was created to handle this task more quickly.
Basic usage:
Connect your Google Drive folder
Coconut will scan the photos, detect faces, and create an index for searching
Upload a portrait photo of the person you are looking for
Coconut will return the photos in the folder that match that person's face
The most important point I prioritize is privacy:
The original photos remain in your Google Drive. The app requests access to the photos for indexing, but access for viewing is still limited by the sharing settings of your Google Drive folder.
Coconut does not save the original photos on the server, only downloading the index and then deleting it. I also don’t have much money to create a storage server :))
The system only stores face features/index for the purpose of searching.
It only reads the folders that you create and grant permission to
It does not access contacts, calendars, or any other data
