QKeyboard: AI Writing — Write better right where you are typing

Hello everyone, today I want to introduce QKeyboard: AI Writing — an iOS app that I built from a very personal need.

In my work, I often have to communicate with international colleagues. Many times, I know exactly what I want to say, but it takes a lot of time to express it naturally, clearly, in context, and with the right tone.

I don't want every time I need to write a paragraph again to have to:

1. Copy text to another AI app.
2. Write a prompt.
3. Wait for the result.
4. Copy the result back.
5. Return to the original app to edit further.

So I started building QKeyboard — an AI writing assistant right on your iPhone, focusing on:

Quick. Keyboard. Rewrite.

How does QKeyboard work?

Rewrite right in the keyboard

You can select a piece of text in Messages, Mail, Notes, Slack, Teams, or other apps, open QKeyboard, choose a writing mode, and see the result before deciding to replace the original text.

QKeyboard supports processing:

• Bold text
• Current sentence
• Content in the input field
• Text from clipboard
• Long drafts through Quick Rewrite

QKeyboard does not automatically replace text without prompting. You can always preview, copy, retry, or replace when the current app allows.

Quick Rewrite for long paragraphs

When you need to handle a longer paragraph, you can open Quick Rewrite, paste the content into the composer, choose a mode, and review the results in a separate workspace.

Quick Rewrite is suitable for:

• Email
• Project update
• Messages for clients
• Meeting recap
• Application
• Social post
• Personal messages
• Text that needs to be polished quickly before sending

Customizable writing modes

QKeyboard offers many modes such as:

• Rewrite
• Grammar
• Shorter
• Professional
• Friendly
• Translate

Additionally, you can create a custom mode based on your own writing style.

For example:

• Write concise project updates
• Make sentences more polite and softer
• Write in brand voice
• Explain technical content in an easier-to-understand way
• Write directly and clearly
• Retain your familiar sentence structure
• Translate between Vietnamese and English

These modes can be saved and reused in similar situations.

Edit only the part that needs editing

Not all paragraphs need to be rewritten.

Sometimes only a sentence is a bit unclear, a phrase doesn't feel natural enough, or a section needs to be softened. QKeyboard allows you to select exactly the part that needs refining instead of rewriting all content.

You can:

• Strengthen
• Adjust the tone
• Rewrite based on custom instructions

Choose your AI provider

QKeyboard supports two ways to use AI:

• QKeyboard AI: uses the AI integrated within the app.
• Bring Your Own Key: connect to a supported provider or your own custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

BYOK is for those who want to have control over the provider, endpoint, or model being used. The API key is stored locally in Apple Keychain on the device.

Share extension

You can also share text from other apps to QKeyboard, select a mode, rewrite the content, and then copy the result back to where it needs to be used.

Privacy

QKeyboard is designed with a focus on users actively controlling their actions.

Text is only sent to the AI service after you actively select a rewrite action. Results are displayed for you to review before replacing
