What is this application?
Keyboard Cleaner is a free extension for Lumi, a utility that runs on the menu bar of macOS. By using the mechanism to lock the entire keyboard (and the trackpad) in Lumi, Keyboard Cleaner allows you to confidently clean your keyboard without having to turn off your machine or lock the screen.

Main features

• Clean keyboard: locks all keys in any app for 30 seconds to 5 minutes, including brightness, volume, media, Mission Control, and Spotlight keys. The trackpad is also locked by default, but can be disabled in Settings.
• Clean while testing keys: keys that have been wiped will light up on the MacBook keyboard image. When time is up, a summary of the number of keys pressed is displayed.
• Double-click error detection: any key pressed once that registers twice will be marked. Dead keys do not light up, making them obvious.
• Test even the difficult keys: fn/Globe and F1–F12. While locked, you can also test ⌘Tab and ⌘Space.
• Safe unlocking: always asks for confirmation before locking. When you want to unlock, hold esc + right shift for 2 seconds, or wait until the time is up. The keyboard layout is depicted in ANSI (US) or ISO style, with both light and dark interfaces available.
• Requests only one permission from Lumi: permission to hold the keyboard.
• Note: To unlock, you need to press and hold the ESC key and the right Shift key (not the left) for 2 seconds. The reason the app chose this combination is that these two keys are the farthest apart on the keyboard, and you must hold them for about 2 seconds to ensure that this is not a false key press during cleaning.

For whom

• MacBook users who frequently clean their keyboards, especially after accidentally spilling water or coffee.

• People buying or selling used MacBooks, who need to check all keys in a few minutes before finalizing the deal.
• Those experiencing double keystrokes, who want to make sure before taking their device for repair.
• Technicians and repair shops needing to quickly check keyboards.

My goal is to build a rich library of extensions for Lumi - the app specializing in keyboards and shortcuts for macOS. Keyboard Cleaner is the next extension I want to introduce to the Unikorn community. I look forward to receiving feedback from users.

Thank you for reading and supporting Lumi! 🙏
